Vignesh Puthur is an indian cricketer who was born on 2 March 2001. He started playing cricket for Kerala Under-14, Under-19, and Under-23 categories, and later he played for Alleppey Ripples in the inaugural season of the Kerala Cricket League (KCL). In the 2025 IPL Auction, he was bought by the Mumbai Indians for the IPL 2025.

He is a skilled left-arm wrist spin bowler who showcased his maestro in a match against Chennai Super Kings, where he took 2 crucial wickets for the team while playing for the Mumbai Indians.

Early Life & Family of Vignesh Puthur

Vignesh Puthur is a left-arm wrist spin bowler who was born on March 2, 2001, in Perinthalmanna, Malappuram, Kerala, India.

Puthur started playing cricket at a very young age with his childhood neighbor children. He initially began his cricket career as a medium pace bowler, but a local cricketer, Mohammed Sherif, told him to switch to leg spin.

He didn’t know anything bout chinaman, but joined the Malapurram Disctrict Cricket Club Academy at the age of 14, where he was trained under coach Vijayan in Perinthalmanna.

His father, Sunil Kumar, is an auto-rickshaw driver, and his mother, K.P. Bindu, is a housewife. He completed his secondary education at the Government Model Higher Secondary School, Perinthalmanna, and later he completed his graduation from GEMS Arts & Science College, also in Perinthalmanna.

He currently pursuing an MA in Literature at PTM Government College at Perinthalmanna.

Vignesh Puthur Cricket Career

Vignesh started playing cricket for Kerala in the Under-14, Under-19, and Under-23 categories. Later, he also became a part of the inaugural season of the Kerala Cricket League (KCL).

He also played for Jolly Rovers Cricket in the Kerala College Premier T20 League. He later played age-group cricket for different Kerala Cricket Association (KCA).

In the Kerala Cricket League 2024, he showcased his bowling prowess and took 13 wickets in 16 matches with an impressive average and had a best bowling figure of 3-38 against BK-55.

In the TCM KCA Club Championship 2023, he performed well in the match for Alleppey Ripples and took 3 wickets for 38 runs, where Mumbai indians scout saw him.

He later attended the trials for the MI but only bowled 1 over in the first trial to Hardik Pandya, where Mahela Jayawardene got impressed with his bowling.

However, Jayawardene relaxed him and focused on his bowling skills and techniques. After this, he worked hard and later attended two trials for MI.

During the ongoing auction, he fell asleep as he thought he would not get selected and might become a net bowler for MI. But one of his friends informed him about his selection, but he could not believe it and searched and found his name on the website.

Mumbai Indians bought Vignesh Puthur as the base price of Rs.30 lakh in the IPL 2025 auction.

After this, he played as a net bowler for MI Cape Town before the Mumbai Indians purchased him for ₹30 lakh in the 2025 IPL Mega Auction.

He made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians against Chennai Super Kings on 23rd March 2025, where he took two crucial wickets of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Deepak Hooda for his team.
